The New Zealand Cellar was founded in 2014 in South London by Melanie Brown.
Melanie had been been committed to the New Zealand wine scene in London for many years looking after the infamous wine list at Peter Gordon's Marylebone Restaurant, The Providores, before embarking on her very on adventure. Melanie began working for Peter in the kitchen, (she's a fully fledged Chef, did you know?) shortly after she landed in the UK in 2005. Peter Gordon, Michael McGrath and Jeremy Leeming all encouraged her ambitious notion to open her very own wine front.
Her knowledge is insatiable, her palate incredible (she judges across many world renowned competitions regularly) and her commitment to New Zealand wine in the UK - incomparable. Melanie embarked on her very first bricks and mortar, or shall we say up-cycled steel, shop and bar front after a hugely successful crowdfunding campaign in 2015. Incredibly reaching their target of £35k in just 5 days, now their store in Brixton is home to one of the most insatiable selections of premium New Zealand wine in the world! Offering private tastings and winemakers events her Brixton outpost is the perfect hub for New Zealand wine in the UK.
Mel (she prefers) is focused on celebrating New Zealand’s breathtaking diversity and expert winemaking ability. Driven with the intention to showcase the very best wines from the country’s finest vineyards and sharing the very best of what the country has to offer, highlighting regional and varietal diversity, to introduce people to new and enticing wines all with her new world energy and enthusiasm.
