About Akarua


Akarua was established in 1996 in one of the most desirable locations in New Zealand; Bannockburn, a sub-region of Central Otago. They have now secured a 50 hectare single estate vineyard where they grow Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. A small vintage was produced in 1999 from the new Akarua winery and over time as vine age increased along with knowledge of the site, quality has been on the rise year by year. Since Akarua Pinot Noir’s first trophy awarded in 2002 by Air New Zealand Wine Awards, a Trophy has been awarded for each vintage since 2009 to date, proving the continuing consistency and quality of their flagship pinot noir. The team work hard from start to finish as they aim to have the wonderful purity of the fruit and the beautiful nature of the terroir in every bottle.
