Devotus

Devotus translates from Latin to 'devotion', to signify the sole focus that winegrowers Don and Valerie have for Pinot Noir. Their small family owned and operated two hectare vineyard is located within the heart of the Martinborough Terrace. They grow only Pinot Noir. The oldest Pommard Clone vines were planted in 1986, the fruit from which makes a handful of Reserve bottles. The remainder of the vineyard is a selection of Dijon Clones, and with an average vine age of 25 years, produces the single vineyard Estate wine. Traditional farming principles are employed. Vintage farm machinery is used to cultivate the vines and green cover crops are grown over the winter, being ploughed back into the soil in spring for organic vine nutrition. Intense wine concentration is achieved with low cropping yields and an absence of irrigation. Farming methods in the vineyard are natural and the mind-set during vinification is to preserve and capture the expression of the vineyard, and of the vintage. Visit the Devotus Website
